Elements and Performance Criteria

Analyse the specifications and requirements
Research the requirements
- Research the appropriate solutions, based on website requirements, including the programming language, content management system (CMS), licensing structure and hosting structure
- Research the techniques, plug-ins and additions to the existing content management system, in order to allow the solution to fulfil the needs determined while analysing website requirements
Create a content-management system powered website
Validate and evaluate the final website
- Validate the final website markup against current website standards
- Validate the content management system performance in different browsers, checking compatibility, and core content management system functionality

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

research and evaluate client requirements

create a content management system (CMS) powered website using an open-source solution

validate the CMS against the standards set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

define "content management system" and describe its purpose

explain markup language and its associated standards

outline server-side language and security techniques

discuss web accessibility

evaluate a content management system (front and backend) in commonly used browsers

outline W3C standards and their application to website development.
